Acton is an idyllic town of about 10,000 people situated atop the Niagara Escarpment within the Greater Toronto Area greenbelt. Thirty minutes from Pearson International airport, 45 minutes from Yonge and 401 or Yonge and Front, surrounded by wide open green spaces, numerous conservation areas and golf courses, Acton offers the best of city, country, and small town living.
Founded in 1844, the location of Acton was chosen for it's abundance of fresh water from the nearby Blue Springs, Black Creek, and the Credit River/Grand River watershed.
Today, Acton is a thriving modern community, with much new development in the last couple of decades. There has been a shift towards commuting to work within the GTA and with brand new 2011 GO train service to Toronto as well as far west as Kitchener-Waterloo, this will continue to increase.
On an early summer morning stroll along the shores of Fairy Lake at the west end of town you will inevitably see several fishermen out trying their luck.
Canoes or kayaks are often out on the water or possibly the occasional electric motor powered fishing boat (combustion engines are prohibited).
Later in the day the excited laughter of children playing in the spray of the brand new splash pad will bring a smile to your lips.
Prospect Park, on a large promontory jutting out into Fairy Lake, is a hive of activity, being the home to four tennis courts, two baseball diamonds, an indoor soccer facility, bandshell, splash pad, boat house, playground, dog off-leash area...and is right next to Rotary Park and it's well-used soccer field.
At the east end of town is another sports hub, with the recently built community centre which houses a hockey rink, pleasure skating ice surface, and seniors centre. Right next door are two more always busy soccer fields.
The Bruce Trail passes just southeast of Acton as it winds it's way along the Niagara Escarpment. Nearby conservation areas such as Scottsdale Farm, Limehouse, Rockwood, and Hilton Falls offer hours of healthy outdoor enjoyment for the family.
